This week Sabine’s battlefield guide Saturday
A new item in the collection :
Iron cross second class
Emperor Wilhelm II reauthorized the Iron Cross on the 5th of August 1914, at the start of the war
The Iron Cross was a Prussian award although sincePrussia’s pre-eminent place in the German Empire, it was seen as a German decoration The 1813, 1870, and 1914 Iron Crosses had three grades:
Iron Cross, 2nd class,
Iron Cross, 1st class,
Grand cross of the iron cross
How to wear that medal :
The Iron Cross 2nd Class, from a ribbon on the chest. The usual display of the 2nd Class version was as a ribbon through one of the button holes in the recipient’s tunic this was awarded without regard to the rank. Over 5 million were rewarded in ww1.
Medals are not my cup of tea but it was given to put in the ww1 room
