A very big Orden Miniaturkette.

A very big Oden Miniaturkette.

In the past, I have been showing in this section a couple of Medals Miniatures Chains or Miniaturkette. Please see the link below or just typing in the search section, the word: Kette (Chain).

The following “Miniaturkette” has a very good quality and also a very interesting combination, mixing 3 German States (Prussia, Bavaria and Saxony) and 2 German Allies (Austro-Hungarian Empire and Bulgaria). It has the following decorations:

– Eisernes Kreuz II Klasse (Königreich Preußen).
– Verdienstorden – Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern (Königreich Sachsen).
– Albrechtsorden Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern (Königreich Sachsen).
– Ehrenkreuz 1914 – 1918.
– Militär-Verdienstorden 4. Klasse mit Schwertern (Königreich Bayern).
– Militär-Verdienstkreuz 3. Klasse (Österreich-Ungarn. KuK).
– Militär-Verdienstorden 5. Klasse mit Schwertern (Bulgarien).

This „Mini“ was made after 1934, because it was the when the Eherenkreuz 1914-1918 was awarded. Also because how the decoration are sorted. Even if the Ehrenkreuz wasn’t there, the order says almost everything. This “Miniaturkette” belonged, clearly, to a Saxe and it was very normal before, during and after the war, to wear their Ordens before the ones from other States or countries.

At this point and before I continue, just to point that the importance of the decorations in a medal bar was from left to right. For the Miniaturketter or a Frack-Kette (a chain for that suit), the importance of the decorations was the other way around, from right to left.

Knowing that, before 1934, this officer would have placed the Iron Cross in the 3rd Place instead of in the 1stPlace. When the nazi got in Power in Germany, they changed the importance of the Decoration, placing the Iron Cross in the 1st place ahead of the rest.

Having spoken about the decorations, it is time to talk about the history. This brave Saxe Officer had 3 decorations, that place him in the Macedonian Front. I am not sure, that Sächsische Regiments were involved in the campaign against Serbia in 1915 and the “run” to the Greek frontier. In 1915, Bavarian and KuK troops were involved, as well as Bulgarian ones. In fact, I already presented a Medal Bar, that belonged to a Bavarian in this section, just go to the Search Field and type: Bruno Wegner.

There is also another possibility for him to get the 3 decorations (Bavaria, Bulgaria and KuK) and that was in 1918, when the Allied offensive hit hard the Macedonian Front. In this moment, for sure, there were Saxe Troops on the field (as well as Bavarian ones, like the guy I mentioned before).

The next step for me is, to try to identify the person, who owed this “Miniaturkette”. That will be difficult for sure.
