Today for Gus’ Gear I have one more Adrian helmet, this helmet was shipped to Italy. On the 23rd of May 1915, Italy declared war on Austria. Italy had been a member of the Triple Aliance with Germany and Austria, but the Italian government decided that because Austria was the aggressor, they would stay neutral. After negotiations with the Allies, Italy determined they had a good chance of territory gains if they sided with the Allies. Early on, the military found that a lot of head injuries were happening because of falling rock in the mountainous battlefield and they approached France to acquire Adrian helmets. In the beginning, the helmets were painted horizon blue, but later were painted gregio-verdi as is this example. Years ago, I owned a HB helmet also marked to the same branch.
The front view shows a flaming bomb surmounted on crossed axes over lightning bolts. This is the insignia of the Geni, engineers. There is an 8 in the flaming bomb.
The side view of the rivet pattern and comb shows this helmet was manufactured by Delmas.
The inner view shows nothing of interest, it is missing the chin strap and liner.
