Today for Gus’ Gear I have a set of Italian breast armor that I do not think I have posted here before. I acquired this from Bill Combs many years ago at SOS. It is constructed of strips of high quality steel sheet that are held together with linen straps. The linen straps are also used to attach it to the body. These were not intended to protect against ballistic penetration but were intended to protect the wearer from bayonet or knife attack. It is displayed on an Italian Pioneer’s uniform. The armor is not nearly as thick as the more common Farina armor, but it is light enough that it can be worn without causing discomfort or restriction to the soldier.
