Eine Gurke…. Or how I burnt myself with a Fake.
Gurke means Cucumber in German and it is used to mark fake pieces or copies sold as authentic. Maybe this is a very complicated thing to accept and, even worse, to admit (what a difficult sport is to swallow your pride). I burnt myself with the following Medal Bar, which I wasn’t sure about it, but still, I was stupid enough to buy it. A silly thing, that I did in a Militaria Fest, that took place a few years ago, not so far away from Ingolstadt. I have to admit, I was so looking forward to buy something, and I made a mistake…. So…
It has the following decorations, from right to left, because this is a Medal Bar for a Frack:
– Kronenorden 4. Klasse (Original)
– Verdienstkreuz Kriegshilfsdienst 1916. (Original)
– Rote Kreuz Medaille 3.Klasse 1898 in Bronze. (Original)
– China-Denkmunze für Nicht Kämpfer. (Kopie)
– Dienstauszeichnung für Offiziere. (Original)
– Kaiser Wilhelm I. Erinnerungsmedaille 1897 (Original)
The Metal part may be original, but the construction of it not. Unfortunately, I didn’t do the common sense thing and that is, to take a picture of it, post it in a good forum or good group or just send it to a trustable friend or source and wait for the answer… and if it doesn’t come, just run away.
At least, the separate medals and Orden can be rescued… of course, not the copy. And the Metal part with the bands I still have in my collection, I just need to get the “blue light” to see, if the can be rescued or thrown away to the rubbish bin.
So there you go, not a funny or good article for today. I will just open a beer (I am writing this article in the evening) and try to learn about the mistakes. If that were easy….
