A Saxon from 18. Kgl. Sächs. Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 192 poses with either his wife or his mother for one last shot before leaving to the front. 1915/16.
Quoting Andrew Lucas: “This was possibly taken at Freiberg in Saxony, as replacements for IR 192 came from the Ersatz-Bataillon of IR 182, based in that town. IR 192 was formed in the field in summer 1915 (with personnel donated from existing Saxon regiments), so this is not a scene from its initial mobilisation.
IR 192 was one of the relatively few Saxon units subjected to the horror of Verdun in Spring 1916.”
