An infantryman in early war gear.

Rui’s Renditions
An infantryman in early war gear. Judging by the flowers and adorned rifle, he was about to leave for the front. The exact date and location are unknown.
Although no information is available on this soldier’s unit or provenance, judging by his uniform and equipment I believe he was most probably a Bavarian:
The metal disk hanging from his neck is a Bavarian Perlux flashlight manufactured by GBN (Gebrüder Bing Company from Nürnberg). The bulb was activated by a spring connected to the front cover hinge, so every time the torch was open, the light would automatically turn on.
His Feldrock seems to be the Bavarian model of the Vereinfachte Feldrock M1915. No piping is visible on the cuffs and shoulder straps. The presence of this model allows one to set a possible date to no earlier than the spring of 1915.
Note the mountain boots. Does anyone have a possible explanation for those?
