merchant submarine Deutschland

This photograph appears to show the merchant submarine Deutschland in rough seas. The submarine is likely stilling completing its sea trials before delivery to German Ocean Navigation a subsidiary of the North German Lloyd shipping company in 1916. The photo was taken by a crew member of the battleship SMS Nassau.
The submarine had a cargo capacity of 700 tons. Deutschland would complete two journeys to the USA and bringing back essential war materials before hostilities broke out between the two nations. It would be converted to a combat submarine with two deck guns & six torpedo tubes. The ship named was changed to U-155.
