National Army Museum at Waiouru

Here’s the last Andy’s Rubbish & Ramblings for 2023. As you know I have been standing in to give Gus a break from his amazing Gus’s Gear offerings.
This time I have a pictorial offering, Adrienne and I managed a day trip to our National Army Museum at Waiouru, it’s around three hours drive from home and I think we picked the hottest day of the year to travel. It was well worth the effort to visit the museum again, and it was great to see that there are additional displays featuring “enemy” items than were previously displayed as the museum was largely focused on New Zealands military history and heritage.
I hope you enjoy the exhibitits, Waiouru is a military camp and training area in the central North Island, it’s a rather bleak place with temperature extremes, it’s essentially in the desert. Or as close to a desert as you can find in NZ. State highway 1 passes through Waiouru and Mt Ruapehu dominates the immediate landscape offering Skiing during winter and the exceptional Tongariro Crossing which is touted as the best one day trek in New Zealand ( I have done it and as unfit as I am, I survived). Taupo are Tūrangi are further north, so essentially if you do visit the North Island, there’s plenty to do which will take you with in a reasonable distance of The National Army Museum.
Enjoy, I have included a lot more than Imperial German content, hopefully you can appreciate a slight shifting of the boundaries.
Best wishes for the New Year.
