An artilleryman and his friend pose in front of a 21 cm Mörser. Ca. 1918
Unfortunately, this postcard has nothing written on it so we can only speculate as to what we are seeing here.
The soldier on the right isn’t an artilleryman and, given the lack of dark piping on his pants and top of the cap, doesn’t seem to be regular infantry. His shoulder board has the number 7 in a somewhat unusual position. In the end, Sam and I decided to ‘make’ the soldier on the right a Jäger for demonstration purposes only.
Given the artilleryman’s dirty hand, it seems he was working when his friend/relative showed up for a visit and they decided to take an informal photo to mark the occasion.
The artillery piece must have been either brand new or painted very recently as the camo scheme is in pristine conditions.
