Rui’s Renditions
A German soldier demonstrates the use of a Mauser 13.1 mm anti-tank rifle. Location unknown, 1918.
The Mauser might not be the only anti-tank weapon in this photo. In the background, to the right, is what I believe to be a 7.58 cm Leichtes Minenwerfer n.A. . In 1918 a revised wheeled carriage was adopted for this model. The new configuration allowed the gun to have a flatter trajectory which in turn enabled it to be used in an anti-tank role. Something it did well from August 1918 onward.
Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t show the characteristic tail which would prove that this is one of the anti-tank mortars, nevertheless, from what I could find, the bigger size wheels point to the anti-tank version as the normal version had smaller wheels.
This photo was probably shot at an ammo’s depot or collection point given the piles of wicker baskets and ammo crates in the background.
