The Italian Trio

The Italian Trio

I totally forgot to show the 3 Italian miniatures, that I got in a Numismatic fair in March, that took place in Munich.

Talking about allied medals from the First World War, the 3 most typical and known one are the British 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Their nickname was Pip, Squeak and Wilfred, like the British Cartoon characters.

Less know, were the 3 most common Italian commemorative medals (from left to right):

– Medaglia Dell Guerra 1915-1918 or Medal of the War 1915-1918.
– The Italian Victory Medal.
– Medaglia a Ricordo dell’Unita d’Italia or Medal for the Unification of Italy.

They have a good quality, as well as they are beautiful. I don’t think, there is nothing ugly in the Victory Medals, it doesn’t matter the country. The ribbon of the Medal for the Unification lost the red colour of the edges.

I do not think, that the Italian soldier was a bad one. At least, I don’t think, they deserve to be underrated or caricatured. The Italian Army was just not ready for such a war. On the top of that, their official corps was directed by some murderers and criminals, that showed no respect for their own troops. Ok, Antonio, relax.

And like the Germans in WW1, I have too many fronts open: Miniatures, Belt Buckles, Bavarian Stuff in general. Far too much.
